The Band
Music & lyrics by Vij Sodera
Where were you when I laid
The foundation of the Earth
Where were you when I shut in the sea
When it burst forth from the womb
When the morning stars sang together
Can you lift your voice to the clouds
So that the rain may cover you
Can you send lightnings, that they may go
And say to you, here we are
TELL ME!
When the morning stars sang together
When the morning stars sang
Where were you
Did you make the eagle
Who spreads his arms and flies
Did you make the albatross
That wings across the skies
And did you make that child who sleeps
And put the twinkle in her eye
Do you know that I’ve seen your faults
Felt your pain and cried
Do you know that it was I who healed the sick
And raised that man who died
So where were you when they nailed My hands
The blood rushed from My side
And where were you when the sky turned black
They left Me there to die
So, where were you when I laid
The foundation of the Earth
Where were you when I shut in the sea
When it burst forth from the womb
When the morning stars sang together
When the morning stars sang
Where were you
Vij’s notes:
This song is based on rhetorical questions to Job, in which God declares His limitless power and glory (Job 38).
So, for a mere man to question the workings of God is foolishness.
The morning stars are the angels.
The Morning Star is the Messiah (Revelation 22:16), through whom God created the world (John 1).
The young child sleeping was Melanie. She always has a twinkle in her eye.
